I’ve added many more layers to my mantelscape since the last photo, including a dead thing or two. If I had my way, my house would essentially function as one giant memento mori. Also, can we talk about what a retch-inducing word “mantelscape” is? Really, it’s gross.

Anyways, one day I might post some detail shots, but until then, you’ll have to make do with this old one.

More black/white/brown. I still don’t think the chalkboard trend is played out, but I might be biased. What will never get old? That Saarinen table and anything Eames.

My only unsolicited snark is that the chalkboard walls here haven’t been chalk primed properly. If you actually intend to use your chalkboard painted walls, it’s best to coat the finished product in a fine layer of chalk dust first. It gives them a powdery charcoal gray finish, but makes them easier to wipe off (less jarring than the clouds of erased chalk on pure black that you see here).
