I’ve added many more layers to my mantelscape since the last photo, including a dead thing or two. If I had my way, my house would essentially function as one giant memento mori. Also, can we talk about what a retch-inducing word “mantelscape” is? Really, it’s gross.
Anyways, one day I might post some detail shots, but until then, you’ll have to make do with this old one.

Marble for my kitchen is my greatest wish, threat of stains be damned!

I love this. The monochromatic with sudden hit of color (in the technically neutral wood grain) is fantastic. I have a table just like that rotting in my backyard. I’ve wanted to sand it and paint it black (with waterproof outdoor paint) since summer started. Think I’ll get ‘round to it before summer ends? Outlook not good.
More black/white/brown. I still don’t think the chalkboard trend is played out, but I might be biased. What will never get old? That Saarinen table and anything Eames.
My only unsolicited snark is that the chalkboard walls here haven’t been chalk primed properly. If you actually intend to use your chalkboard painted walls, it’s best to coat the finished product in a fine layer of chalk dust first. It gives them a powdery charcoal gray finish, but makes them easier to wipe off (less jarring than the clouds of erased chalk on pure black that you see here).
Black, white, brown at Number 9 (detail). Note to self: clean mirror.
Black, white, brown at Number 9. Restyled my as-yet-unused fireplace mantel to encompass that aesthetic.
